You’re Invited: “Through the Wardrobe – Prince of Narnia”

It’s almost here! On Thursday, November 30, HSP’s Latin teacher and Lower School Dean of Academics, Michael Verlander, will be hosting the next installment of our “Through the Wardrobe” lecture series.

This series was created for Holy Spirit Prep’s faculty to share their knowledge and love for classical education and literature. Each event begins with an optional Mass, followed by music performed by Holy Spirit Prep scholars and hors d’oeuvres available to all. Childcare will also be available, so we encourage you to join us and invite your friends to this evening of fellowship and culture as we celebrate classical Catholic education!

Event Details: Discover the Educational Vision of C.S. Lewis

The second installment of this year’s series is titled: “Prince of Narnia: The Educational Vision of C.S. Lewis.” Drawing from both C.S. Lewis’s fiction and non-fiction writings, especially Dr. Cornelius’s tutelage of Prince Caspian in The Chronicles of Narnia, Mr. Verlander will discuss how Lewis’s literature provides insight into the vitality of a Christian worldview and how we can convey this worldview to our children.

Lewis’s writing has had a significant impact on Mr. Verlander’s own life:

“I have been reading the Narnia books aloud to my children for many years, and the stories are as wonderful to me as they are to them. Over time – as a student, teacher, and parent, I have read many great and beautiful works of literature, philosophy, theology, and history, not least of all those by C.S. Lewis. At this stage, it is easy to see how Lewis’s work, and in particular, ‘Prince Caspian,’ displays the rich classical and Christian heritage of drawing from – and modeling after – what we read in good stories. To this day, Lewis remains a literary mainstay for both my family around the hearth and for my students in the classroom.”

Please RSVP for “Prince of Narnia: The Educational Vision of C.S. Lewis” by November 23. We look forward to seeing you there!
