Dear Holy Spirit Prep Families,
“Each person, in some way, is called to work for the common good, constantly looking out for the good of others as if it were his own.” — Saint Pope John Paul II
We started our semester this week by welcoming Mrs. Tyra Nuar, Ms. Michelle Lucas (Lower School Teachers), and Mr. Bob Holdsworth (Development and Athletics) to our HSP family. Each brings a great deal of talent and experience that has greatly enhanced the lives of our students, as they looked out for their good, in less than one week!
COVID-19 Update
Several days ago you should have received an email with updated COVID-19 protocols (also posted on our website holyspiritprep.org/Covid-Protocols). To reiterate the main point of the message, the most important and effective way to maintain the health of our community is to closely monitor for symptoms of COVID-19. If your children, or anyone in your household develops symptoms, please keep them out of school and group activities, contact a healthcare provider as soon as possible, and notify the school.
HSP Gala 2022
HSP’s 2022 Gala is quickly approaching. Invitations are in the mail! We look forward to a beautiful evening of celebration and community on February 12th at Cherokee Town Club. The team is working hard to make the evening special, and we hope to see all of you there. Please take some time to consider becoming a Gala Sponsor - any level of support is welcome and all sponsors will receive special recognition at the event. More information about tickets, sponsorship levels, and even a raffle will be published soon.
We all look forward to an amazing 2022 with you and your children.
Enjoy your weekend!
In Christ

Dear Families in Christ,
I hope you had a wonderful break and that our New Year is off to a great start! I wanted to continue to share more this year about our devotion to the Sacred Heart, that the middle school students are working to create awareness at HSP. The students have been learning a little about the history, the promises that Christ gave us if we practice this devotion, and something saints and popes have written about the Sacred Heart. I wanted to share in this short note a few things that we can do to show our devotion to the Sacred Heart.
There are many books, articles, and documents written about this devotion. I think finding a good book or article can be a good way first to get to know what this is all about. Here are a few ideas of where to begin: Diary of St Faustina, Biography of St Margaret Mary Alacoque, and Behold This Heart by Fr Thomas Daily. Or any book on this link.
If this is something that you would like to pursue, it would be natural that there are some prayers that one would like to learn to express your devotion. The Church and tradition give us a few prayers that help us put words to our devotion to the Sacred Heart. These could be the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, the enthronement of a family or home to the Sacred Heart, consecration to the Sacred Heart, novenas (of Surrender or to the Sacred Heart), or many other prayers that I am sure you could find. These prayers are expressions many people before us have come up with to express their devotion to the Sacred Heart.
Traditionally there are a few trademarks to the devotion to the Sacred Heart. I believe it has to do with where we can go to experience first-hand where the Sacred Heart wants to give us its treasures. First it is important to choose a day. Jesus, through the saints has told us that First Fridays would be great place to start. Friday is traditionally the day we are invited to think about the Passion of our Lord, and it was in the crucifixion that Jesus shows us His love. When we set some time apart and tell ourselves this time is for me to pay special attention to God’s love in his Heart, then I am sure that when we do these devotionals, we are more likely to receive peace, joy, and consolations from our Lord.
The first way is attendance of Mass on First Fridays. Mass is a primordial place to contemplate God’s love. Each Mass we relive the mystery of our redemption. Christ comes to us in the reading of scripture and in the Eucharist. God shares with us the secrets of His Heart through scripture and places His Heart before us in the Eucharist. Although both are hidden, we take time to be with Him at Mass where we can contemplate these mysteries and allow God to reveal Himself to us.
The Eucharist is Jesus’ Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity. By spending time in adoration, we are acknowledging our faith in God and await with Hope the promise of His love. When I am doing adoration of Blessed Sacrament, I like to imagine Jesus’ Heart in the monstrance. There I can place my heart next to His, so He can heal and strengthen in mine what might be hurt or need encouragement. Maybe you can try this next time you go to adoration.
In mass and adoration, we contemplate Jesus’ love and offer him honor and praise. Another way we can respond to Jesus’ love and express our love is through offering sacrifices to Jesus. We can do simple things such as not eating candy, kneeling a little longer in prayer, sitting with good postures, etc. We offer sacrifices by denying ourselves some good that we may want or enjoy just to tell Jesus, “I love you.”
I hope that through these ways the Church has blessed us with, mass, adoration, and sacrifice, we are able to discover more and more God’s love and express our love for Him.
God bless!
Fr Andrew, LC
