Dear Holy Spirit Prep Families,
Last Friday's Homecoming game was a reminder to me of how special the Holy Spirit Prep community is. Thank you to all the families that came out to support our varsity football team, chearleaders, band, support team and community. Welcoming back our alumni was especially heartwarming.
I hope that you will be able to join us this weekend at our High School play and Music Under the Stars event.
As a service to our community, we are offering free COVID testing at HSP on Tuesdays for any students, family members, faculty and staff who wish to be tested. More detailed information is provided in the 'COVID Testing at HSP' link below in this Green and Gold Newsletter.
I invite you to read the letter below from HSP's Director of Development, Maria Kichler.
In Christ
Dr. Ed Lindekugel Head of School
Dear Holy Spirit Prep Families
Over the last few weeks we have been working hard on the first phase of the HSP Annual Fund. During these 3 weeks, we focused efforts toward reminding you, our current families, of the importance of the Annual Fund and why each and every gift makes a difference. We are so grateful to all of our families who supported the 2021-22 Annual Fund with gifts and pledges.
Thank you also to all who supported this year’s Annual Fund efforts. I am so grateful to our team of Annual Fund Grade Representatives including Stephanie Cusimano, Teresa Ray, Tricia Mulcare, Rebecca Bernier, Martha Vega, Jenny Brown and Denise Gunderson. And a special thanks goes to Amanda and Rick Kuhlman, our 2021-22 Annual Fund Chairs. Each of these volunteers are a true demonstration of our motto - to serve and not to be served.
I am proud to share that as of today, we have over 90% parent participation including confirmed gifts and pledges and we have raised over $400,000 to support our school.
And we are not done.
We will continue to seek support for the 2021-22 Annual Fund throughout the year by reaching out to HSP Alumni, extended HSP families, and the community. Additionally, we have started pursuing support from foundations with ties to the HSP community.
We ask for your prayers - that our efforts be fruitful and we continue to find support for the very important mission here at HSP. Please keep checking the Support section of the website for ways that you can help us spread the word to your families and friends.
As always, I welcome you to reach out to me any time at mkichler@holyspiritprep.org. If you have questions about our efforts, interest in offering support, or just want to discuss ideas, I would love the opportunity to speak with you.
With gratitude,
Maria Kichler Director of Development

We are disappointed, but will be unable to host an in-person event for Grandparents Day this year due to COVID-19 concerns. We are, however, planning on a virtual Grandparents Day and our teachers and administration are working on some wonderful projects to share with grandparents both digitally and in hard copy.
To prepare for this distribution, we need contact information including email address and mailing addresses for the grandparents of our community.
We are asking Middle School families to complete this form by October 25. Note: if you have provided contact details for grandparents to a K-5 grade level rep already THIS YEAR, we ask that you complete the first 3 questions of this form so we can cross reference with that information.
Questions can be directed to mkichler@holyspiritprep.org.

Dear Holy Spirit Families,
There has been a long tradition of the Catholic Church to pray for one another. There are countless examples in the Bible about the power of praying for one another. Old Testament speaks about interceding for one another and offering a sacrifice for them for one reason or another. In the gospels many people bring the sick to Jesus to be healed (cfr Mk 2:1-12). Jesus also tells us to ask the Father and He will give it to us (cfr Jn 14:13).
Part of our relationship with God is that we pray for one another. Pope St. John Paul II once shared that during a period of this life the only way he was able to pray was interceding for others. Often, we tell one another when someone is in a tight situation that we will pray for them. We can ask for the intercession of one another here on earth, and we ask the saints in heaven to intercede for us there. Praying for one another other than bringing us closer to God also brings us closer to one another.
The Eucharist, according to Vatican II, is the source and summit of our Faith. This means that in the Eucharist the theological virtue of Faith is increased in us, and that the Eucharistic celebration is the best expression of our Faith. The Eucharist is then the highest form of prayer and best way to commune with God. If then this is true, the Mass is the best place to offer our intentions.
There was a young lady who God allowed to see her guardian angel during Mass. She would also see the guardian angels of those around her. One day her guardian angel was sad, while the others seemed very happy. Then the young lady realized what the other angels carried something; they all carried intentions. She realized that this was then the best place to pray for all the people she knew and loved.
The Mass is the best place to bring our intentions. It is great that the children read petitions at Mass and offer intentions in their prayer box that they offer during the offertory. The Church in her wisdom has offered a more perfect way for us to participate in the celebration of the Mass, by having the Mass offered for a specific intention. Though every Mass is offered for a multitude of intentions, the priest usually has a first intention that he places on the altar The faithful by making an offering of their own can actively participate in this offering at the altar. A small offering, traditionally $10, is made to show the sacrifice of the person who would like to offer this intention to God.
Those wishing to honor a loved one during the celebration of Mass may stop by the Front Office of the Lower School or Upper School and pick up a Mass card or speak to Mrs. Insalaca or Mrs. Bailey. Mass cards are available for the living and deceased and provide opportunities for prayerful remembrance of anniversaries, birthdays, and other special intentions. Please contact one of Holy Spirit’s chaplains for more information.
Other than offering Masses, we encourage you to pray for one another. Ruth Sacco is helping to coordinate a team of parents who will be praying for intentions that families would like to post in our Holy Spirit online intention book. These intentions will be kept private. Prayer Requests
If you would like to be part of the prayer team please email Ruth Sacco saccor1999@gmail.com or follow this link.
Information may also be found on our Faith and Family page at www.holyspiritprep.org.

We're so proud of our varsity football team for their first win of the season over Young Americans Christian Academy this past Friday! It was an amazing night that started with our community tailgate with students, parents, staff, alumni and friends. We had a great turnout, and the crowd energy remained high throughout the night with the addition of the pep band stand tunes and cheerleaders dancing along!
The game was an exciting one with many back-and-forth scoring. The score was tied close to the end, but our Cougars secured the win with a touchdown in the final seconds before the whistle. The student section along with the cheerleaders rushed the field in celebration.
At halftime, our little cougar, middle school, and varsity cheer teams all performed a routine together. We also announced our 2021-22 Homecoming King and Queen: Micah Gunderson and Asia Bay Jacobs!
Thank you to everyone who made this special night happen!
