Dear Holy Spirit Prep Families,
In case you missed it, below is my letter sent earlier today in the monthly newsletter.
Our sincere thanks to you for your continued support and prayers for our children and community as we continue to face and address the COVID-19 pandemic together. Our common values, rooted in the teachings of Christ, distinguish us. They allow for reasonable disagreement and conversation on any topic, including what is best for our children. Despite any differences we may have, please know how much our entire team cares about, is concerned for, and loves your children.
Our ongoing efforts to address COVID-19 aim to accomplish one major goal - do what is best for our children. HSP’s COVID-19 Response Team and professional medical advisors continue to utilize as much accurate raw data and professional medical advice as possible to inform a comprehensive situational analysis for the school. An effective analysis and resulting plan for accomplishing our goal - do what is best for our children - requires a balance of three key areas.
Thankfully, we have been able to engage with multiple experts in each of these areas. Our lead medical consultant for physical health is an M.D. who arguably has dealt with as many or more COVID-19 patients than any other medical professional in the state. Our lead mental health consultant is a nationally recognized M.D., with decades of successful experience as a psychiatrist. I lead our administrative team, which collaborates to address effective educational issues for our students.
Controversy relating to what is the best set of protocols for any school centers on the balance of the aforementioned areas. Different individuals and organizations place varying degrees of value and importance on each of these areas. In our view, a proper situational analysis requires us to research, seek guidance, and pay attention to each area, with objective analysis and weighing of the pros and cons of protocols as they relate to each area relative to our effort as a school to do what is best for our children.
COVID-19 is an unfortunate reality. Holy Spirit Prep’s policies were crafted and are reviewed and updated to deal with the reality of COVID-19, recognizing our obligation to do our best to properly and intelligently address all three key areas of physical health, mental health, and effectiveness of the education we provide our children. We may have reasonable disagreement as to what is best, but in the end, decisions need to be made for the school as a whole.
Below is information that you may find helpful:
COVID-19 Protocols
COVID-19 Infection and Exposure Procedures
Remote Learning Protocols
It is my hope and prayer that our HSP family remains united and strong, trusting in God. I understand not everyone will ever agree with everything we do, or how we do it. But please know we are diligently engaged in an ongoing effort to seek and execute what is best for as many students as possible.
I would be happy to meet with anyone interested in more information about our rationale, sources of information, or strategy relating to COVID-19. If you would like to meet, please email Theresa Sequeira (tsequeira@holyspiritprep.org) and she will set up a time for us.
In the meantime, please enjoy the Labor Day weekend!
In Christ,
Dr. Ed Lindekugel
Head of School

Dear Lower and Middle School Parents,
In case you missed it, below is a message from me sent in a newsletter earlier today.
I hope you have enjoyed the first couple of weeks of school. The students seem to have acclimated well to their new teachers and procedures. We continue to preserve the focus on providing our students with opportunities to grow in their faith and as servant leaders. Their formation in life is crucial to us, and we feel blessed to answer the calling from Christ to help you in your child’s preparation.
Lower and Middle School parents had the opportunity to get to know more about our Classical Education curriculum and their child’s teacher during Parent Night. This provided a deeper look into what your child experiences while at HSP. Thank you to the parents and family members who attended.
In Middle School, our teachers have continued to search for ways to further support our students with their organizational skills. Thus, we have begun implementing the Cornell Notes method to help with structure, consistency, and organization.
On to other news, you are still on time to register for any of our after-school programs including Gymnastics, Playball, Girl Scouts, Boys’ Club, ECyD, etc. ESP (Extended School Program) is offered daily from 3:00 pm -6:00 pm and takes place in the gym, cafeteria or library, depending on what activity students are doing.
We have had a fabulous beginning to the academic year! Please continue to bless our school and students with your prayers. We pray that our students remain safe and continue to grow in their faith and formation. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me at sirizarry@holyspiritprep.org with any questions or concerns. I am proud to partner with you and discuss any matters.
God bless,
Stephanie Irizarry
HSP is happy to announce the creation of a 4th-6th grade Theater Club.
There are many benefits this program will bring to HSP. Learning public speaking is in direct alignment with our Classical approach to education. Also, drama teaches self expression, creativity, voice development and improvisation to name a few. Clarity and expression are critical factors in being a successful public speaker and presenter, both of these will be improved as a result of participation in a drama club. Participants in this club would learn teamwork, build confidence and nourish their imagination. They will test their own patience and through perseverance and hard work and produce an end-product that will be very gratifying.
Our theater club advisor is Dr. Rick Kuhlman. Dr. Kuhlman brings years of experience having performed in many musicals and show choirs and was a performer at Opryland in Nashville, Tennessee. We are thrilled to have him working with us to help develop a strong foundation to our theater program.
The Theater Club will meet after school on Wednesdays at the Lower School. All 4th-6th grade students are encouraged to participate. For more info please contact our fine arts director, Mr. Insalaca at Linsalaca@holyspiritprep.org.

Lower/Middle School Parent Volunteer Opportunities
Dear High School Parents,
It was so nice to see many of you at Parent Night. I hope you all had a nice evening meeting our high school teachers. They are very excited to be teaching your children this year! Our new House leaders have been chosen by the student body and are already meeting to start planning some of the great things we will be doing this year. Last Friday, the Houses competed in a dodgeball tournament where the House of Nicaea came out on top. The House leaders will also be fundraising in the coming weeks by selling HSP’s newest uniform outerwear: a thick, cozy navy quarter-zip sweatshirt ($50 each).
Our Pro-life Club, the apostolate run by the House of Trent, has already met twice and is in the midst of planning awareness campaigns and fundraising for a trip to the March for Life in DC. They also elected new leadership: Claire (president), Jacob (vice-president), Claire (secretary), and Samantha (treasurer). The apostolate has grown significantly since last year and is eager to continue fighting for the rights of the most vulnerable.
The Fine Arts department is off to a great start of the school year. Our choir students have already begun singing at the weekly Masses, our theater department is beginning rehearsals for their fall play, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, our band and orchestra classes are preparing a program of beautiful music for the fall concert, and our visual art students are pushing their creativity to the limits for their upcoming art show. We will also play host to our 2nd Annual Music Under the Stars event on October 23rd. Music Under the Stars is a Chastian type concert turned up a notch. Guests will have the opportunity to purchase an 8 seat table that they may decorate in the style of this year’s theme “Movies of the 70’s and 80’s”. There will be a contest for best centerpiece and prizes will be given. You may either pack your own picnic or choose to preorder food and have it waiting for you when you arrive. Performers will include our own HSP Community Big Band featuring HSP student instrumentalists and singers, and The Atlanta Jazz Cats, a 70’s/80’s style horn band, performing the music of Chicago and bands inspired by them.It will be an evening to remember. We hope you will share the memories with us!
Fall sports are in full swing at the High School. We’re so excited to see our participation numbers increase, and we have so many events happening! Check out the school calendar to see what’s coming up each week.
Both our Varsity Cross Country and Clay Targets teams have started their seasons with a bang earning high marks in their first competitions. Davis Braun placed 1st in the 1600m for the boys, and Isabella Ramirez and Kira Taylor came in 1st and 3rd for the girls at the Battle of Sandy Springs. Top three performers from the first Clay Targets meet are Adam Marshall, Max Bendig, and Toland Oakhill. We are eager to see how these teams progress throughout their season!
We had a wonderful turnout of fans from all three campuses to support our Varsity Football and Cheer teams at our first home game of the season. Though the game was not a “W”, fun was had by all! Come out and support our Cougars at our next home game at the High School on Friday, September 10 at 5:00pm. We will be celebrating Teacher Appreciation night with a special half-time ceremony.
Our Varsity and JV Volleyball teams have been busy competing in two tournaments as well as multiple matches both home and away. Some highlights include the varsity team earning their first win against Notre Dame Academy at home last week, and our JV team beating Cristo Rey last night in 2 sets! The teams are coming together and really feeding off each other as the season progresses. Come out and support both our teams in our upcoming matches!
The virtue for the month for August was generosity, and we are so grateful to all our families and corporate sponsors who have already joined the Athletic Booster Club as well as our parent volunteers who have supported us at our home games with admissions and concessions. Please check out our Athletic Booster Club membership benefits and Corporate Sponsorship levels. We would love 100% participation.
Thank you all for your continued support and prayers.

HSP’s technology policy is designed to provide consistency for teachers in the classroom, and security for students and their families. The High School is currently in year 3 of our transition to a 1:1 school-issued Chromebook program. This policy applies to current 9th and 10th graders.
HSP’s technology fee covers the cost of Chromebooks as well as ongoing infrastructure support, upgrades, and maintenance. HSP provides all 9th and 10th grade students with Chromebooks. And on the basis of consistency, security, and other priorities, HSP strongly encourages and prefers that students use school-issued devices on campus. However, HSP will permit responsible use of personal laptop devices by students during school with properly documented parental permission, under the following conditions:
Again, HSP strongly encourages and prefers that students use school-issued devices on campus. However, you may grant permission for your 9th or 10th grade student(s) to use personal devices in class this school year in accordance with these guidelines by sending an email to Brittney Bailey at bbailey@holyspiritprep.org. Please note that the technology fee will not be waived as a result of granting permission.
We are preparing for our 9th-12th grade varsity baseball season and want to gauge interest from our community to help us plan accordingly. If your student in 9th-12th grade is interested in playing varsity baseball, please fill out the interest form below.

The varsity cross country team competed in the Battle of Sandy Springs this past Saturday, and the Cougars took the top spots for both boys and girls in the 1600m. Congratulations to Davis Braun and Isabella Ramirez who came in 1st! Kira Taylor also made the podium for the 1600m earning 3rd place.
You can view the full results here: Varsity Boys • Varsity Girls
The middle school volleyball teams faced Atlanta Classical Academy this past Tuesday at home. Congratulations to the A team who won in 2 sets! The B team played a great match but lost two super close sets.
The JV volleyball team also played at home this past Tuesday against Cristo Rey. The Lady Cougars beat the Lady Flames in two sets!
Congratulations to the middle school football team for winning their first game over Unity Christian 34-32! The boys played incredibly tough and worked so well together as a team. We're so excited to see how they progress through this season!
Join us next week to cheer on our Cougars as they face Lafayette Christian School at 5:00pm! The game will be played at Lafayette Christian School (1904 Hamilton Rd LaGrange, GA 30241).
Varsity Volleyball - Analise Oliver
Analise was nominated for Cougar Athlete of the Week by both the JV and Varsity coaches this week! She has been tremendously helpful ensuring the team starts the season off in the best way, and has continued to be a leader on and off the court. I can't wait to see her grow this season!
JV Volleyball - Isabella Casey
The beginning of any season is difficult, as every player adjusts to find what position they will commit to for the next several months. As each player has been shuffled around, Bella has fearlessly tried every position she has been thrown into. Not only does Bella approach each position without hesitation, but she does so with a contagious positivity, openness, and an unbreakable focus on supporting her teammates through their adjustments as well. We are so grateful to have her in the volleyball family!
Middle School Volleyball - Kate Johnston
Kate is always the first to help others on the team. Anytime we break into serving drills at practice, you can find her helping some of the less experienced players with their serve. She has been a great leader in the program.
Varsity Cross Country - Davis Braun
Davis won the 1600m at the Battle of Sandy Springs.
Varsity Clay Targets - Adam Marshall
This was our first competition of the year and Adam was our top shooter breaking 162 out of 200 possible clay targets for an 81% hit ratio. Great numbers for the beginning of our season.
Varsity Football - Max Bendig
I am excited and fortunate to have Max as a senior this year. Max had a fantastic game two weeks ago making great blocks and several tackles, but the leadership he showed before, during, and after the game is what stood out to me. The personal statistics are easy to list and highlight, yet it's what he does on the team that is more impressionable to our young team that will take this program to the next level. Leadership is earned, not given, and Max has definitely earned his leadership role with the Cougars.
Varsity Cheer - Lilah Sell
Lilah is new to cheer this year, and I'm already so proud of her effort at practices to learn all the cheers, dances, and stunts in such a short time. At practice this week, Lilah was nervous to try an extended stunt, but with some encouragement from her teammates, she executed the stunt with grace!
Middle School Cheer - Abby Casillo
Abby has been a great leader for the middle school team as one of the most veteran members of the team. She was a big help at our first game this week! She was ready to answer any questions the new girls had during the game and was a great role model for them!
