Dear Holy Spirit Prep Families,
We were proud to announce our Head Boy and Head Girl for the upcoming shool year at our May Crowning ceremony on May 3. The pictures below show our current Head Boy and Head Girl, Hector Padilla and Jenni Li, handing over their special ties and responsibilities to Max Bendig and Olivia Arnold at the ceremony.
I invite you to read the message below to the HSP community from Olivia and Max.
In Christ,
Ed
Dear HSP Community,
We are Max Bendig and Olivia Arnold, and we are beyond thrilled to serve as the Head Boy and Head Girl for the 2021-2022 school year! Both of us have been attending Holy Spirit Prep since Pre-K 4. From athletic events to forming and fostering friendships at Holy Spirit Prep, we are proud to call it our second home.
One of the primary lessons our school community has taught us over the past ten years is authenticity -- being yourself. We truly believe that an authentic learning environment and a school that is deeply grounded in Catholic doctrine will bring out the best in each and every student.
Entering into this new school year, we have the privilege of being able to work and lead the school with some of our closest friends, friends that we have grown up with and known for the majority of our lives. This is one of the key elements of Holy Spirit Prep that we hope to emulate and keep alive—a strong environment of virtuous individuals that build each other up.
As we come closer to August, we are confident that the relationships with administration, faculty, and student leadership will yield one of the most successful years Holy Spirit has ever seen. Our predecessors, Hector and Jenny, have done such a fantastic job of keeping our values of faith, prudence, and magnanimity alive. Under our tenure, these virtues will remain alive as each student grows in their relationship with Jesus Christ. We hope to see everyone come together and form the same true Holy Spirit Prep identity that we all have come to know and love.
Both of us are ready to take the daily challenges of leading the school head on and to form unique experiences that everyone will remember for the rest of their lives. Let’s get this year started! Go Cougars!
Olivia Arnold and Max Bendig

In the annual faculty vs. students kickball game, the Upper School students took down the teachers 6-0 through 5 innings. The faculty insist they were hamstrung by COVID preventing their normal intensive practice routine leading up to the game.
Congratulations to the students!

House of Lyons Apostolate
This year, middle school students participated in an oratorical regarding dignity of life. To continue with this theme, the House of Lyons requests your support for mothers that chose life for their child recently. Some HSP parents and Holy Spirit Catholic Church parishioners are part of an organization called Sidewalks Save. More information can be found at, including an ongoing Amazon baby registry can be found here: https://www.sidewalkssave.org/copy-of-get-involved
Students will be able to participate in this drive by creating “blessings” bags for sidewalk advocacy efforts. We will collect travel size tissues and hand sanitizer as well as religious articles such as prayer cards, rosaries, medals and crosses. We will assemble the bags and give them to Sidewalks Save by the end of the school year.
Concretely, this means you can send in Amazon gift cards, donate to the registry above, or send in donations with your child.
The PVA is already looking ahead at the 2021-22 school year and WE NEED YOU!
Without volunteers, we cannot maintain the current events and support on campus.
Please consider stepping up as a chair-person for one of the following events. If you’d like some clarification about the role and responsibilities, please reach out to Maria Kichler (mariakichler@gmail.com). We will not finalize the calendar of events until we have a chairperson aligned for each event.

All assessments will finish on Friday May 21st, which will be the official last day of school for Upper School students.
The week of May 17th to May 21st will be full academic days with regular school hours.
On Friday, May 21st, the Upper School will have a modified schedule. Classes will be 55 minutes long (E-H period), and Cougar Period will be moved to the end of the day and combined with lunch. Upper School Used Book Collection During May!
Please have your student drop any used textbooks into the bins in the Rotunda (Liberal Arts Building) as they are cleaning out their lockers over the next couple of weeks. The PVA inventories and re-sells the books over the summer during the online Book Sale. The bins are labeled by subject.

REVIEW YOUR 8th – 12th GRADE STUDENT'S PROGRESS IN PLUS PORTALS
The Upper School only emails official report cards at the end of the semester in December and May. The 3rd quarter ended on March 12th and we want to remind you to log in to your PlusPortals account to view your student's progress from the third quarter.
In addition, we also wanted to provide you with information as to how to view your student's most up-to-date grade for the semester now that we have moved into 4th quarter. To view your student's 3rd quarter progress:
· Begin from the PlusPortals home page, and select "Progress" under your child's name
· Select "Third Marking Period" from the drop-down menu to see your student's 3rd quarter average for each class.
As teachers start posting 4th quarter grades, you will want to view your student's 2nd Semester average (labeled as 2S AVG in PlusPortals), which is a cumulative average of all grades earned in both the 3rd and 4th quarters. To view your student's 2nd Semester average, you would follow the same steps as above for the Third Marking period, except you should select "2S AVG" from the drop-down menu instead.
Please remember, the 3rd quarter grade is just a progress grade. Your student’s 2nd semester grade in their class will be a cumulative average of all earned grades in both third and fourth quarters.
If you have any questions about your student's grades, please contact the teacher directly. If you have questions about your PlusPortals account, please feel free to reach out to our Registrar, Kelly Sickafoose, at ksickafoose@holyspiritprep.org.

Dear HSP 10th - 12th grade families in Christ,
I hope you are all well. I wanted to send you a note regarding a new initiative we are currently working on for the summer for a group of High school students. Over the past few years, I had the grace to be able to run a leadership course in Washington DC , where I would bring High Schoolers from around the country to visit political and business leader in our Nation’s capital. This year, because of Covid, providentially, we are not able to have the course in DC. So we began to see if we could start up something here in the Atlanta area. So we began to ask around for speakers, and the response was very positive. We took that as a sign from the Lord to bring the program to HSP.
The Objective of this course is to bring young men and women in front of some business leaders where they will have the opportunity to interact with them. The men and women will be able to share their story about what they did to make it to the position they are in, what attracted them, some of the principles they use to guide their life, and also what role Faith plays in their life.
Venue: We will be staying at Georgia Tech, where we will be commuting as a group to visit the business leaders, either in office, home or other venue.
Dates for the course are June 16-23. Arriving Wednesday (June 16) evening and departing a Wednesday (June 23) midday.
Cost: $900
Other than visiting offices, we will be having a time to plan and run a service activity for some poor immigrant families, and learn classic etiquette.
Some of the speakers that have confirmed their availability:
Kelly Loeffler – Politician
Frank Hanna – CEO of Hannah Investment firm
Orlando Ojeda – President of Full Circle Restoration
Anthony Cabrera – Senior Finance Council for Coke
Kelly Angelo – Treasurer at Coke
Dr Adolph Casal – Psychiatric Childhood Medicine
Dr Grigorian – Neurosurgeon
Rick Kuhlman – Kuhlman Chiropractic Care, Work ethic
Kathleen Magnusson and Sue Nardelli – Etiquette
Erik Gunderson – Primus Executive VP
Dan D’Aniello (virtual visitor from DC) – Co -Founder of Carlyle Group
Please consider joining Fr Juan, Andrea Vargas and I on an unforgettable journey with some of Atlanta’s Catholic Leaders.

Love for Mary: It's the month of Mary! Saints - Maximillion Kolbe, Bernadette
“To succeed in your intentions, entrust yourselves to the Blessed Virgin Mary always, but especially in moments of difficulty and darkness. ‘From Mary we learn to surrender to God’s will in things. From Mary we learn to trust even when all hope seems gone. From Mary we learn to love Christ, her Son and the Son of God…Learn from her to be always faithful, to trust that God’s Word to you will be fulfilled, and that nothing is impossible with God.’”
