Time to explore.

Learning doesn't stop when the last bell of the day rings. Students are always learning, and they need opportunities to explore learning outside of class, too. This is the premise of Cougar Hour, the Lower School's after-school program. From 3:00pm-4:00pm, Monday through Thursday, Cougar Hour provides students activities to practice essential skills. Students grow in organization, teamwork, problem-solving, flexible thinking, creativity, and communication.

Of course, faculty at each grade level will be available after school to assist students with any academic needs that may arise.

What if my student needs extra help in their regular class? How does it work?
Prior to the start of each quarter, parents register their students for different daily activities. These activities are included in tuition and will be led by HSP Lower School faculty. Book club, choir, gardening, fitness fun and study skills are a few examples of Cougar Hour's initial offerings.

What if my student is enrolled in the Carroll Center's tutorial program?
Please contact your Carroll Center teacher directly to determine how Cougar Hour can best fit into your child’s schedule.

How does this affect afternoon dismissal?
Students not participating in Cougar Hour will be dismissed at 3:00pm to carpool. Students participating in Cougar Hour and remaining on campus at 4:00 will be dismissed to ESP.

Extended School Program (ESP)

Sign up for ESP

ESP provides a place for students when parents need additional time to pick up their children. The program is staffed by members of the school’s faculty and operates daily in the media center from 4:00pm-6:00pm. The Extended School Program provides homework time, supervised recess and activities, and afternoon snacks. ESP does not operate on early dismissal days.
