HSP's New Head Football Coach

Posted: 5/4/2016

We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Shawn Coury as HSP's new head football coach.

When we began searching for a coach to take the torch from Coach Rosenzweig, we sought a candidate not only with significant football experience, but someone who could build on our legacy of forming players into virtuous, courageous young men. With almost twenty years of coaching experience; almost twenty years of teaching science, theology, and physical education; and fifteen years as an RCIA instructor and Fellowship of Christian Athletes leader, Coach Coury is the man to take our football program to its next level, athletically and spiritually.

Coach Coury explains his academic, spiritual, and athletic expectations to HSP's football players

"Football offers a fantastic platform to form Christian leaders. Football is a tool to aid in the formation of young men as they move toward their lives as husbands, fathers, and community leaders. I believe it can provide lessons that they can apply as sons, brothers, students, and teammates," Coach Coury said. "It is important that they learn the game, but there are greater lessons that we as coaches are responsible for demonstrating. I think these young men need to see us as examples of good husbands, good fathers, good leaders, and good followers."

Coach Coury comes most recently from West Forsyth High School, where he served as both offensive coordinator and strength and conditioning coach. In his nearly two decades of coaching, he has also acted as assistant head coach, junior varsity head coach, and freshman head coach, and has coached teams at Cherokee High School, Pinecrest Academy, and South Forsyth High School.

Director of Athletics Coach Evans writes "We are so excited to have Coach Coury on our team. His vision syncs tightly with our school philosophy. He is definitely the man to build on our foundation of football and take us to the next level of interscholastic competition in Georgia."

Coach Coury looks forward to joining the Holy Spirit Prep community with his family: his wife, Kelly, and their three children, Luke (4th grade), Lexi (3rd grade), and Libby Kate (Kindergarten).
