Holy Spirit Prep Celebrates Daiyann Cook, Gates Scholar

Posted: 5/30/2013

Holy Spirit is proud to announce that Daiyaan Cook, graduating HSP student, has been named a Gates Millennium Scholar. Each year, the Gates Millennium Scholars Program (GMS) selects one thousand talented students to receive a good-through-graduation scholarship to use at any college or university of their choice. Gates Millennium Scholars also receive personal and professional development through leadership programs, and academic support throughout their college career.

Daiyaan is the son of Ms. Dawn Cook and the late Officer Carnel Cook, and will attend the University of Maryland in the fall. There, he plans to major in kinesiology in pursuit of a career in sports medicine. Daiyaan was highly involved in tutoring first- and second-graders at Park Lane Elementary in Atlanta and at the Solidarity School in Sandy Springs. Additionally, Daiyaan spent each summer attending collegiate enrichment programs at Converse College, the University of Maryland, and Morehouse College. At Holy Spirit Prep, Daiyaan was a member of the Art Club and managed our basketball team.

We wish him much luck in his future endeavors and are proud to know that he may always call Holy Spirit Prep home.

Daiyaan is the third graduate from Holy Spirit Prep to receive a Gates scholarship. Maria Guzman was awarded the honor in 2009, and in 2007, Trevor Thompson became HSP’s first Gates Scholar.
