Announcing our New Director of Athletics

Posted: 3/22/2015

We are pleased to announce the appointment of our own Kevin Evans as our new Director of Athletics.

When Holy Spirit Prep began the national search for a Director of Athletics, our Head of School, Mr. Pietrantonio, charged the search committee with finding a game-changing candidate to enhance the competitive level of our programs and ultimately move us from GISA to GHSA. After reviewing 20+ resumes and interviewing 8 highly-qualified candidates from a broad array of institutions across the US, it became apparent that no one is better situated to accomplish that than our own long-time Lower School athletics director, Kevin Evans.

After teaching, coaching, and directing the entire gamut of HSP's Lower School athletics for almost sixteen years, no one understands both the students and the athletic needs of our community better than Kevin. His grasp of Atlanta's interscholastic sports landscape will be fundamental in our transition to a higher level of competitive play.

Tommy Curtin, who led the search committee, affirmed this, "For over 15 years, Kevin has led HSP students to embrace their athletic and personal potential enthusiastically, and he has done so with his characteristic charisma. The impact he has made on our community stood out to the search committee as a qualification that no other candidate could match. It is clear to me that, with Kevin at the helm, HSP athletics is poised to make great strides in the coming years.”

Kevin will start his fresh approach to our athletics program immediately, and, indeed, has already begun preparing for next season. "My first priority is building a strong coaching staff," Kevin notes. "The foundation of our athletic program has to be passionate faculty-coaches who love what they do, who love their students, and who are a continuous presence throughout the day, not just at practice or during competition. With that foundation, we will build our coaching staff to achieve our program's objectives within the HSP mission."

Kevin adds, "I am committed to building a competitive program on level with the most respected athletic programs in Atlanta. It will be a crucial marker of success for this program that students are attracted to HSP and choose to remain here because of its athletic program. God has blessed me deeply in my time at Holy Spirit Prep, and I'm thrilled at the opportunity to elevate Holy Spirit Prep to a new level of athletic competition."

Mr. Pietrantonio said, "Having worked closely with Kevin at the Lower School for several years, I know firsthand his passion, dedication, and love of the school and the young people with whom he works on a daily basis. He is eager to build on our sports programs at the Upper School while understanding the pivotal foundation needed at the Lower School to do so effectively. Having overseen a number of coaches throughout the years, Kevin is known to form strong, trusting relationships with those whom he works. Undeniably, he has earned a great rapport with parents, students, colleagues, and alumni alike."

Please join us in congratulating Kevin as we look ahead to the future of HSP athletics!
